‘𝐇𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐛𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧’

We sat in a round table to celebrate him. It was his birthday and I was the master planner. I can’t explain how God created me but if I grow to love someone, I will always rejoice more than you when you are to be celebrated.

My family, friends and acquaintances know me to be their cheer leader. My sister seem to be the direct opposite of me when it comes to situations like that so she has agreed to work my own way especially on her birthdays.

And my husband? He should have grown tired of me by now, the way I celebrate things that he should be the one celebrating marvels him. If you follow me on social media, you would see how I celebrated my husband’s club (Chelsea), it seemed like I have been supporting Chelsea for years. Lol.

Being an extremist to my loved ones success or success channel(s), I feel hurt when I’m not treated same.

It was my first year working in that organization and he played a part to my short term success.

The least I could do was to ensure that his birthday was well planned.

When it was time for the celebrant to appreciate all colleagues, he said beautiful things and me the master planner was seated waiting for my own goodwill message cum appreciation.

“Vicky is an amazing person but she’s very stubborn”.

Jehovah mi o! I exclaimed impulsively. I stood amazed for about five (5) seconds. You mean these were your thoughts towards me that you could say it before everyone?

I quickly asked Google for help to get the right definition of stubborn just in any case I’m overthinking. Google always comes through for us.

“Having or showing dogged determination not to change one’s attitude or position on something, especially in spite of good arguments or reasons to do so”.

Definition didn’t seem so bad but why say that about me. I was hurt and wished I reverse the time. I knew I was called stubborn in the past but not now I consciously seek God’s help to work with people.

My ever smiling face, my gifts to my colleagues all landed me in being called stubborn. Anyways, I decided from that moment to be careful with what I do or say. The more careful I became, the more difficult it was working with my colleagues. My work environment became a daylight nightmare for me and I always looked forward to closing time.

One beautiful afternoon, a discussion was going on and there was a need to move a motion and write to our employer. This was going to benefit everyone but the stories put together were obviously not true.

However, they needed the funds for everyone so we all had to agree. I wasn’t part of the discussions because I was on my Bluetooth but little did they know I could hear them clearly.

A totally different colleague of mine said, “our challenge now would be the lady, Vicky. You know that lady will hardly agree to things like this. She would definitely start telling you biblical principles that doesn’t conform to such”.

They all laughed hysterically. They never spoke to me. They never executed their plans.

For the first time in almost one year, I understood why my colleague called me stubborn on his birthday.

I quickly called my then fiancé now husband to share with him. He was happy I discovered myself.

Workplaces are filled with people of different characters and beliefs. You can be all nice, diligent but yet unpleasing to others.

While feedbacks are important to our growth, be careful who you listen to and what feedback you work on.

𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕, 𝒔𝒕𝒖𝒃𝒃𝒐𝒓𝒏𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒃𝒆 𝒂 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 𝒒𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒂 𝒌𝒆𝒚 𝒅𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒔𝒖𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔. 𝑩𝒆𝒄𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒖𝒃𝒃𝒐𝒓𝒏 𝒑𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕, 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒗𝒆. 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒇𝒐𝒄𝒖𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝒅𝒐𝒏𝒆.

Know your stubborn limit through the help of the Holy Spirit.

While we work on ourselves, seek counsel from genuine persons not those who will desire you conform to their standards.
